The Death March

Professor Hyde has been calling our expeditions in search of water sources the "death march." Despite the title, we've been having good progress with the water project. So far we've looked at 13 different sites and gathered 8 samples. It's been amazing to see how there are so many different types of water sources in a relatively small town (cistern, river, pump-well, etc.). Unfortunately, every sample except for one has tested positive for coliform and e. coli, showing how big of a problem it is for this area. One positive news is that there is a lot of interest among local leaders about improving water quality. Father Tijwa and two men from the Milot Water Committee (Monsieur Charlot and Valbrune shown in the pictures below) have been especially gracious in providing help and guidance.

Looks like people in Haiti are into hip-hop.

There's always a crowd that gathers around us wherever we go...

Little kids swimming in a river full of trash

Sophia bravely volunteering to get water samples from the river

Pigs hanging out downstream of the river

Results of the water samples. Yellow means bad...Thankfully, the first one on the left, which is our drinking water in the compound tested negative

Now we are off to our first day trip to a market in Dondon. Orevwa!
